Introduction to a Bunbury's Generation sample.
This history of the D’Arcy family was commissioned in 2008. The gentlemen who recruited Turtle knew the following five facts:
- His great-grandmother was christened Bertha D’Arcy.
- She was born in England.
- She spent some time in Australia.
- She married someone called John Robinson Benson.
- Her brother was supposed to have been a very wealthy man.
Turtle traced the D’Arcy family back to the 10th century. He found Bertha’s grandparents, who lived in County Mayo in Ireland. He discovered that Bertha’s brother was the formidable oil and gold tycoon, William Knox D’Arcy. He also made contact with various D’Arcy and Benson cousins who were able to send him some diary extracts and newspaper clippings that explained more of the D’Arcy story.
