My grandfather packed a lot into his 44 years. Born in the midst of the great War, he lost his mother at the age of eight and, an only child, became very close to his father. Educated at Cambridge, he lived it up in the US in the 1930s but life turned serious at the age of 21 when his father died and he succeeded as 4th Baron Rathdonnell. He married Pamela Drew, a free-spirited artist, a few weeks later. When Hitler's War came, he found himself in command of a squadron of tanks  ....
