Thomas Harriot (1560-1621) – Renaissance Man, Virginia Pioneer

A remarkable scientist, linguist, mathematician and surveyor, Harriot journeyed to North America with his friend John White in 1585 and spent time living among Algonquian-speaking peoples of the Roanoke and Chesapeake region. Between 1588 and 1598, he was closely associated with Walter Raleigh’s Irish estate in Munster.
