Prince Lionel of Antwerp Comes to Carlow (1361-1367)

In 1361, Prince Lionel, second son of King Edward III of England, took office as Governor of Ireland. He relocated the Exchequer and Court of Common Pleas to Carlow Castle and enacted the Statutes of Kilkenny before his death aged 29, having allegedly been poisoned by his Italian father-in-law.
