Richard Boyle (1566–1643) – The Great Earl of Cork

Born in Canterbury in 1566, Boyle was the dominant figure in Ireland’s Blackwater Valley for four decades. A self-made entrepreneur, he turned modest beginnings into an immense Munster estate, was created Earl of Cork in 1620, and by his death in 1643 was among the Crown’s wealthiest subjects.
