Siegfried Sassoon in Limerick, 1918

In January 1918 Siegfried Sassoon, already a decorated and controversial war poet, was posted to Limerick. Light duties left him free to hunt across Munster and write bitter trench verse, even as local voices warned of the violence soon to engulf Ireland.
