From Grallagh Castle’s ruined tower to the scaffold at Limerick, the Butlers of Castle Crine trace their line to Wild Piers Butler of Tipperary. His descendants commanded Confederate forces, endured Cromwellian confiscations, and, through transplantations and decrees of innocence, preserved the Boytonrath and Castle Crine branches into the seventeenth century.
