Richard Roberts (1803-1841) and the Sirius 

From a hillside house above Cork Harbour, Richard Roberts joined the Royal Navy, later captaining the wooden‑hulled steamship Sirius on the first all‑steam Atlantic crossing to New York in 1838, before vanishing at sea in 1841.
